The Power of fear

13:16 Feb 26 2008
Times Read: 622

Theres many types of fear in the world...fear of losing something precious to you, fear of the unknown, fear of the darkness inside you, fear of death, the list goes on and on. Fear of what we dont understand has been the cause of more destruction and death that one can ever perceive.

Because fear isnt always the most pleasant of emotion, it has gotton a bad rap..... fear is and can be powerful and intense. A persons ego screams that fear is a bad thing....that it should be squashed and destroyed...but should it?

Facing your fears, accepting and acknowledging them can lead to inspiration, empowerment and a sense of freedom. It also holds within it, a level of self understanding that in itself is a gift beyond measure.

medival morality and sexual desire

01:58 Feb 22 2008
Times Read: 630

On sexual desire, with the advent of christianity, sexual behavior turned from being a accepted and cherished event to something that was shameful and should only be enjoyed in the context of marriage and the enjoyment was not required or expected on the part of the female participant. Sex was something that was more of a duty than an expression of love, committment and simple enjoyment. With the church breathing down everyones neck, sexuality like many other things was pushed into the closet.

This new era of sexuality repression, did not however, restrain sexual behavior, it simply made it "evil", it DID NOT stop various sexual fetishes and desires manifesting within individuals. This especially affected females who by their "curse" of being born a woman made them into chattel or property whose sole duty in life was to give their husband children. Sexual behavior within women was not only discouraged, but condemned. Women who expressed their sexuality were called harlots and whores, and osteracized by society itself.

This hidden force still exists today where sexual desires of varying natures are called deviant or supressed leading to all sorts of mental and emotional pyschosis's that exist within individuals. While todays society is becoming for accepting and open in regards to sexuality, various fetishes are still hidden and not talked about in "proper" society.

As human beings are sexual by their very nature, to surpress ones sexual desire, makes one neither happy nor healthy. Its time to look within oneself and acknowledge ones sexual desires and express them, safetly of course. Im not speaking of course of the various sexual behaviors that cause harm to others or deal with children or extreme violence. In these cases, there are serious underlying emotional or mental issues that have little or nothing to do with sexuality in and of itself. Im speaking of the sexual desires of a more "normal" level, BDSM, foot fetishes, oral fixations, role playing, food play, the list goes on and on.... Who is to tell you that what..."flips your trigger", so to speak is wrong, and who has the right to pass judgement on what you do in your personal private life. The fact is...that no one has that right and its up to each person to decide what is the best way to express the sexuality that lies within themselves.--

The expense of spirit in a waste of shame

Is lust in action; and till action, lust

Is perjured, murderous, bloody, full of blame,

Savage, extreme, rude, cruel, not to trust,

Enjoy'd no sooner but despised straight,

Past reason hunted, and no sooner had

Past reason hated, as a swallow'd bait

On purpose laid to make the taker mad;

Mad in pursuit and in possession so;

Had, having, and in quest to have, extreme;

A bliss in proof, and proved, a very woe;

Before, a joy proposed; behind, a dream.

All this the world well knows; yet none knows well

To shun the heaven that leads men to this hell.

Feral Musing on magick Ethics and Responsibility

17:24 Feb 19 2008
Times Read: 656

It seems that in "Neopagan" circles there seem to be 2 main schools of thought regarding ethics within magical practices. The lovely "Do what thou wilt shall be the Whole of the Law" and the standard "Do what thou wilt so long as it harms none".

So what would be considered unethical magical practice, well ...it seems like on a general level, most folks consider... any magical spell or action that interferes with anothers free will unethical. But to play devils advocate... ETHICS like TRUTH is a highly personal viewpoint so that opens up a whole new pandoras box of debate. I think both of those are more personal schools of thought than anything else.. but I digress.......

Anyhow...back to ethical magic....Okay... So lets say for the sake of argument that anything that effects anothers free will is unethical. Does that mean that binding, curses or protection spells stopping someones actions are ethical or unethical? If you consider the Wiccan "harm none" clause... then YES it would be considered unethical, cuz you are directly manipulating someone elses way of thinking or course of action.

Because.....Newsflash people.......Despite whatever "good intentions" when you have when you "curse or bind" you arent out there spreading sunshine and roses.... and by definition.... it would be considered a left handed action since it DOES interfere with someone elses free will will. So you cant have it both ways, if you are gonna be out there spouting out "Bright Blessings" and quoting the Wiccan Rede then you better be prepared to uphold it to the letter of the law.... so to speak ROFL.

Call me crazy, but both the LEFT hand and RIGHT hand schools of thought seem to be a bit extreme for me. Im more of an advocate for "reponsibility magic"...meaning, I definatly TRY not to do nasty things to other people (on both a magical and mundane level) but if I REALLY feel the need to do it.... then Ive been willing to go into it with open eyes and Ive been willing to take the karmic and magical responsibilites and deal with wherever the chips may fall, Im not gonna put a sugar coat of BS on my actions if they are of a left handed nature.... I do what I do for my own reasons and Im RESPONSIBLE for those actions be they positive or negative. But also take into consideration that I do believe in Karma ... (to a certain extent) so its a personal choice. I dont believe in the 3 fold law in the way its portrayed because quite frankly Ive seen too many nasty mean people succeed in this world to buy into what you send out returns 3 fold.

I believe magic is like throwing a stone into a pond.... no matter what happens.... you ARE going to get ripples spreading outward. You cant stop that.... its just a matter of how large of a stone you lob in there too see how far out the ripples go.

PS. Just to stir the pot and give ya some food for thought.... if you believe in Karma and Karmic responsibility... whos to say that it ISNT in your enemies karma to give them a magical kick in the ass? Just an idea to ponder... and believe me... Ive SERIOUSLY pondered this one before..... ROFL!!! But either way... whatever you do... be prepared to accept and acknowledge your actions, be they Left, Right or somewhere in the middle.

Hallelujah!

And yes I can see the irony in stating that on a neo-pagan's journal *grin* but it is refreshing to see someone else writing down what I think about the whole Ethics question.
